Ruby Ferguson is a 2018 painting graduate from the University of Brighton, now practising locally in DMZ Studios, Manchester. The pieces displayed studies imagery and objects collected from her grandparents' home in Teeside. These objects are often mundane household items (for example a cover of an old recipe book, a dated ornament or tablecloth). Working within a variety of mediums she experiments with colours, composition and layering. Keeping a balance of controlled mark making and spontaneity is important. This allows an element of play while creating. Although for Ruby these pieces are a homage the value of the everyday, the process often renders the original items as unrecognisable to a viewer. What is still hopefully conveyed is an appreciation for the materials themselves as Ruby continues to refine her practice while staying inquisitive and experimental. Email: rellferg@gmail.com
